Recently, it was learned from the Hebei Shahe Glass Technology Research Institute that the world's first float-process production line for architectural decorative glass-ceramics, developed by the institute, has been successfully constructed and put into operation in Jiangxi.

After several years of dedicated efforts, the institute conducted systematic research and optimization on the product's composition, structure, performance, and process parameters. It completed the development of full-process technology as well as the associated thermal engineering equipment, mechanical and automation equipment, along with engineering design. Multiple key core technologies were successfully achieved, and the entire production line has realized full localization of materials and equipment. From January 5 to 25, 2015, researchers from the institute conducted pilot trials of architectural decorative glass-ceramic panels on a float-glass pilot line with a daily melting capacity of 2.5 tons, achieving complete success.

Professor Cheng Jinshu, the institute's director, told reporters that compared to traditional sintering and calendering methods, this technology eliminates the surface grinding and polishing steps, increases product yield to over 90%, and reduces overall costs by 30%–50%. The launch of this new float-process architectural decorative glass-ceramic product is expected to transform the landscape of materials used for interior and exterior walls, flooring, and decorative applications, leading the development of the architectural decorative glass-ceramics industry and driving technological progress in the sector.
